Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70-pint Dehumidifier Review

The very popular Frigidaire FAD704TDP Dehumidifier has slowly been phased out and is no longer available since April/May 2012. It has however, been substituted by the NEWFrigidaire FAD704DUD model which is the current 70 pint dehumidifier unit that replaces the FAD704TDP in the Frigidaire range.

The new FAD704DUD maintains all the excellent features of the FAD704TDP model, while adding some improvements that include: A more compact design (weighs 1 pound less and is a little smaller in size), a higher air flow (CFM), a more user-friendly Electronic Controls Panel and is a little less noisy, according to many Customer Reviews, which also includes a very helpful Video Review.

Besides the improvements mentioned above, everything else is identical, so the Dehumidifier review (below) of the “no longer available” Frigidaire FAD704TDP still applies to the new model, Frigidaire FAD704DUD 70 pint Dehumidifier, which first appeared in April 2011.

When the FAD704DUD was launched, it had problems with the continuous drainage feature which was not working properly. Frigidaire has since fixed this problem with a new drainage system and is presently the best selling Dehumidifier in Amazon.

The Frigidaire FAD704TDP Dehumidifier is an Energy Star Compliant model capable of removing 70 pints of water from the air during a 24 hour period, providing a fresh and comfortable environment in your home. This unit comes with a built-in anti-microbial filter that helps remove allergens, mold, mildew and other harmful bacteria. Besides keeping you home smelling fresh, it’s also a real bonus for those who suffer from allergies. This filter is washable and the Frigidaire FAD704TDP will give a warning with a light, to indicate when it is time to clean the filter, which is really easy to do.

The Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70 pint Dehumidifier was designed for medium to large sized rooms or basements. A lot of people buy a dehumidifier for their basement. Some areas of the country are extremely humid and all this moisture in the air can do a lot of damage to your home, your possessions and even your health, so buying a home dehumidifier will probably end up being cheaper than all the damage that humidity can do.

The Frigidaire FAD704TDP is relatively heavy at 44 lbs, yet it’s a very portable dehumidifier, equipped with caster wheels to allow you to move the unit easily from room to room. This unit also has a top mounted as well as two side mounted handles to help carry it up or down stairs. Two people can easily share the load in this situation.

This Frigidaire Dehumidifier will automatically shut off once the water collection bucket is almost full. The front loading 17 pint bucket has a carry handle and a splash guard to make emptying the bucket really easy. It also has a level indicator, just in case you want to check the progress while you are walking by. To avoid having to frequently empty the water bucket by hand the Frigidaire FAD704TDP includes continuous drainage that allows you to attach a hose to a sump or drain into which the water will discharge to.

The Frigidaire FAD704TDP comes equipped with an adjustable humidistat which helps control the level of relative humidity from 35% to 85%. A good comfortable level of about 50%, give or take 5%, is the ideal for most people. This feature has the advantage of saving energy as it will stop the unit once that desired level has been reached. Even after the compressor has shut off, the fan will remain running (happens in most dehumidifiers). This happens because the humidistat needs to monitor the relative humidity in the room, so it will restart the compressor once the humidity level has gone up again.

The auto-defrost feature included in the FAD704TDP will also stop the compressor from running when ice forms and once again allows the fan to continue running. The fan draws air across the coil which melts the ice. The formation of ice on the coil will dramatically reduce the effectiveness of a dehumidifier and may even damage the appliance. For this reason the auto-defrost feature enables the unit to continue operating in ambient temperature as low as 41°F, protects the unit and helps extend its lifespan.
