Frigidaire FAD251NTD 25 Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier Review

The popular Frigidaire FAD251NTD 25 pint Dehumidifier is currently unavailable after being slowly phased out of the market since June 2012. It has been substituted bythe NEW 30 pintFrigidaire FAD301NUD Dehumidifier. Frigidaire has made an excellent move by replacing the 25 pint dehumidifier unit by the 30 pint model.

Not only does the new FAD301NUD maintain all the good features of the previous FAD251NTD model, but it also adds some advantages and some improvements such as: It’s more Energy Efficient because it extracts an extra 17% of moisture from the air for the same amount of electricity used (both models are 410 Watts). It has different looking, but super simple Controls Panel with a rotary knob mounted on the top of the casing that is great to those who dislike the increasing complexity of many home appliances with electronic panels.

Because the FAD301NUD is relatively new there are few Dehumidifier Reviews from customers at Amazon, but since most of those Customer Reviews are positive, it suggests that this small, portable and very economical, no frills unit is a good choice for small to medium sized homes or basements and for that reason we are pleased to recommend the Frigidaire FAD301NUD Dehumidifier to our visitors.

Besides the changes mentioned above, everything else is identical, so the Dehumidifier review (below) of the “No longer Available” Frigidaire FAD251NTD also applies to the NEWFAD301NUD Dehumidifier.

The Frigidaire FAD251NTD 25 Pint Dehumidifier is an extremely popular machine with many good reviews. The FAD251NTD is designed to be a lower priced solution for an apartment or small sized areas and rooms with humidity problems.

Weighing just 29 lbs the FAD251NTD is very portable with carrying handles on the top and sides and fitted with caster wheels to make this unit easy to carry or slide to other areas of the home, even for someone that may have problems in lifting objects, since it’s no heavier than an upright vacuum cleaner.

The Frigidaire FAD251NTD comes with an adjustable humidistat allowing you to adjust the level of relative humidity from 35% to 85% with a setting of around 45% to 50% being the most comfortable to live with. This Energy Star compliant unit comes with a washable anti-bacterial mesh filter that will keep the air clean and smelling fresh and features a front loading 8.5 pint bucket equipped with a full tank alert system with automatic shut-off.

The continuous drainage facility on the FAD251NTD allows you to attach a slim plastic pipe to the unit and let the water discharge continuously to a drain or other outlet relieving you of having to empty the bucket manually. Since the drainage is done by gravity you may need to place the unit 15 inches or more above the level of the drain.

This small Frigidaire Dehumidifier comes with an auto-defrost feature allowing it to operate safely in cooler temperatures to as low as 41ºF. Without this feature the FAD251NTD could stop operating at temperatures below 65ºF due to the accumulation of ice on the refrigeration coils. The Auto-Defrost feature stops the compressor and turns on the fan which draws air over the coils until the ice has melted, at which point the compressor restarts again.

Conclusion

Although a small dehumidifier consumes less energy than the bigger units, their efficiency measured in pints of water removed per energy dollar spent is less than bigger units. Even if the rooms are small, the extra cost of a larger unit is worth it as it will have an overall savings in electric bills, since the larger units run for fewer hours a day to dehumidify the same amount of water.

We should mention the fact that the Frigidaire FAD251NTD Dehumidifier has now been substituted by a new 30 pint model; the Frigidaire FAD301NUD that has few but excellent reviews and is highly recommended and available at Amazon.com.

As for the NEW Frigidaire FAD301NUD 30 Pint Dehumidifier it’s too early to give it our honest recommendation; however we are led to believe that if it follows and improves on the performances of its predecessor, theFrigidaire 25 Pint Dehumidifier, then it should also be highly recommended
