Blade

The blade is made of 420HC (high carbon) stainless steel and heat treated for toughness (56-58 hardness on Rockwell scale) while at the same time easy to sharpen and holds a good edge. It is full tang construction hence strong enough for cutting meat, light batoning and skinning tough animals easily.

The beautiful, well-ground 3-1/8-inch drop point blade is of the perfect size and is razor-sharp right out of the box to skin wild animals efficiently.

** Although 420HC (high carbon) stainless steel is a good steel for making blades, it is not the best when compared to other premium steels such as 154CM (1.05% carbon), BG-42 (1.15% carbon) or S30V (1.45% carbon) since it contains just 0.4% to 0.5% carbon content. Nevertheless, it also contains 12.0% to 14.0% Chromium for very good corrosion resistance as well as 1.0% Manganese for increased hardenability and toughness.

Handle

The ergonomic handle is made of attractively designed, Macassar Ebony Dymondwood slabs for better grip with high-quality, large brass bolsters to protect finger from accidents while using it.

Sheath

It comes with a high-quality, Mexican-made, pouch-style, black leather sheath to keep knife in after use.

Final Thoughts

The Buck Knives 113 Ranger Skinner is an excellent skinning knife. Its high-quality construction and craftsmanship makes it one of the best survival knives out there.
